Govt. to organize international cyber security conference

The government in collaboration with cyber security and tech giants is going to organize an international cyber security conference in the capital on 9 March 2017 aims at taking a coordinated initiative to prevent and check the alarming rise of cyber-attacks.

Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) of ICT Division, US based Fire Eye, CISCO, CA Technologies, Microsoft, One World InfoTech, Europe based NRD AS and Bangladesh Based companies NRD Bangladesh Ltd. & REVE Systems will jointly organize the conference at auditorium of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC).

Honorable State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak will inaugurate the conference which is expected to be attended by diplomats, at least 20 foreign cyber security experts and 200 government officials.

The conference is being held to mark the one year completion of BGD e-GOV CIRT (Bangladesh Government Computer Incident Response Team) set up to manage cyber security incidents in Bangladesh Government network & related infrastructures.

Honorable State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said there should be coordinated approach to face the fast-growing cyber-crimes and attacks as in most cases the cyber-attacks takes place from outside country.

The government is going to organize international cyber security conference involving the cyber security and tech giants and international stakeholders to take a coordinated initiative to check and present cyber-attacks and cyber-crimes, he said.

Director of National Data Center Tarique M Barkatullah said there should be mandatory physical security and numerous cyber security guards assigned and trained appropriately in each organization to protect its cyberspace.

The World Bank financed LICT project of BCC has already provided training to about 2,000 government officials on e-government activities including protection of cyber-attacks, he said. Norway based company NRD AS has been appointed by LICT Project to enhance cyber security skills of government officials and provide support to form Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT).

He said the international cyber security conference would also help taking up a coordinated and comprehensive action to face the cyber-attacks and cyber-crimes.
